Ljubka Biagioni has been first guest conductor of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Philharmonic Choir Svetoslav Obretenov Sofia since 2010. She has conducted a series of semi-staged opera performances at the Herrenchiemsee Festival, including La Traviata, Nabucco (with Paolo Gavanelli) as well as Cavalleria Rusticana and Rigoletto. She went on a very successful tour through Austria with the Wiener Kammerorchester which culminated in a final concert at the Wiener Konzerthaus. At the Megaron Musikis in Athens, she conducted an outstanding production of Mozart's Don Giovanni with Ruggero Raimondi. This was followed by further guest conductings of Manon Lescaut in Lucca, Pisa and Viareggio. As first guest conductor of the Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, she led the orchestra through several concerts in Italy. In Denmark she went on tour with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and in Greece with the Orchestra La Camerata. A winner of the 2002 conducting competition "Franco Capuana", she completed her degree as orchestra and chorus conductor at the Sofia Music Academy with honours. Born in Rome, of Italian/Bulgarian origin, Ljubka Biagioni has done further studies with Karl Österreicher, Norbert Balatsch, Leonard Bernstein, Ferdinand Leitner and Valery Gergiev, as well as with Ilya Musin in Rotterdam. She worked as assistant conductor at Tokyo's Suntory Hall, the Arena di Verona, and the Salzburg Festival, as well as in Florence, Genova, Berlin, Naples, Athens, Parma, Milan and Garmisch. Her repertoire is wide spread and includes works by Mozart, Bellini, Rossini, Verdi, Wagner and Richard Strauss, amongst others.
