Song Foundation

The Stichting Het 20ste-eeuwse Lied (20th Century Song Foundation) was founded by the pianist Reinild Mees in Amsterdam in 1998. The goal of the foundation is to cultivate the song repertoire of the 20th century and, in particular, of the period between the two world wars in order to increase the public's awareness of this music. Through the foundation's efforts, composers such as Franz Schreker, Ottorino Resphighi or Karol Szymanowski, whose works had since been forgotten, have once again found a home in the concert life of today. At the center of the foundation's activities is the permanent exchange among musicians, press, institutions and the public. In collaboration with the Stichting Het 20ste-eeuwse Lied, Channel Classics has recently released complete recordings of the songs of the above-mentioned composers, which have won several international awards. Also high in the public's esteem are the "Spotlight" concerts in which Reinild Mees and the Stichting Het 20ste-eeuwse Lied present songs and texts concerning a composer or a theme in a semi-staged form. The concerts unite young Dutch artists as well as internationally renowned vocal soloists and actors. The stage direction is in the hands of well-known directors such as Frans Weisz and Klaus Bertisch. The programs for the 2006 season are available and can be sent on request.
