American soprano Abbie Furmansky was born in Brooklyn and studied at the Julliard School of Music in New York City. She attended masterclasses with Luciano Pavarotti, Alfredo Kraus and Marilyn Horne and won several awards at renowned vocal competitions, including the Francisco Vinas Competition in Barcelona, the Puccini Foundation Award and the Luciano Pavarotti Competition. She appeared at prestigious American opera houses such as the New York City Opera, the Washington Opera, Canadian Opera Company or the National Grand Opera. From 1999 till 2001 Abbie Furmansky was a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble, where she performed various roles of the lyric soprano repertory. Since then she makes freelance opera and concert appearances in Europe and America with, amongst others, the Munich Philharmonic, the Frankfurt Opera, Bavarian State Opera and Los Angeles Opera. The list of conductors she has worked with includes names such as Kent Nagano, Christian Thielemann, Marcello Viotti, Kurt Masur and Christopher Hogwood. Among her favorite roles are leading Mozart characters such as Donna Elvira, Ilia or Fiordiligi, but also prominent parts of the Italian and French repertory like Mimì, Liù, Micaela or Juliette. In addition to her operatic activities she frequently appears in concert and gives recitals together with her husband, the pianist and composer Daniel Sutton.
