Norwegian tenor Arild Helleland has his education from the Norwegian State Academy of Operatic Art and the Theatre and Opera Academy in Gothenburg, Sweden. He has also academic degrees in theatre science and art history. Arild Helleland has done more than 70 roles on stage. He started his career as a lyric tenor singing parts as Ferrando, Nemorino, Lenskij and Tamino. As a permanent member of the ensemble at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo he has created a lot of character parts, such as Herod and Mime. For Mime he received the acclaimed Norwegian Press Prize (1995) and the International Flagstad Society Award (1997). During the years 1994 - 96 he was a member of the ensemble at Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he sung parts as Schuskij in "Boris Godunov", Hexe in "Hänsel und Gretel", Mime and Monostatos. He has guested operahouses in Athens, Stockholm, Drottningholm, Gothenburg, Brüssel, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Bilbao and others. Arild Helleland has worked with conducters as Antonio Pappano, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Heinz Fricke, Marcello Viotti, Kazushi Ono, Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, Leif Segerstam, Ralf Weikert and Johan Arnell. Among the directors he has worked with are Götz Friedrich, Willy Decker, Keith Warner, David Alden, Gian-Carlo del Monaco and Stein Winge.
