Soprano Vassiliki Karayanni was born in Patras (Greece) and studied singing with Barbara Gavakou, going on to win prizes in many international singing competitions. She took part in many festivals and concerts throughout Greece and could be heard as a soloist in Mozart's and Fauré' "Requiem", in Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater" and "Salve Regina" in Vivaldi's "Gloria", Bach's Cantatas, in "Carmina Burana" and concert arias of Mozart, etc… Karayanni has extensively collaborated with the National Opera of Greece (Athens) in a great variety of roles: Queen of the Night, Olympia, Zerbinetta, Blonde, Norina, Gilda, Violetta, Rosina, Despina, Gismonda (Il marito disperato), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Mme Herz (Der Schauspieldirektor by Mozart), Comtesse Adele (Comte Ory), Charmeuse (Thais), Elvira (Italiana in Algeri), etc. Furthermore she has collaborated with major opera houses throughout Europe: the Teatro San Carlo in Naples (Il Marito disperato by Cimarosa), Teatro Communale di Firenze (La serva padrona), Teatro San Carlo of Lisbon (Zerbinetta, Ariadne auf Naxos), Opera Dusseldorf (Gilda), Thessaloniki Megaron (Gilda and Blonde) and the Athens Megaron (Queen of the night). In 2004, Vassiliki Karayanni made her spectacular debut appearance at London's Royal Opera House Covent Garden with the role of Olympia and was re-invited for the same production in December 2008. During the same year she also appeared in a concert performance of the Magic Flute at Queen Elisabeth Hall in London, another concert performance in "Dal Verme" Concert Hall of the "Teatro alla Scala" di Milano in 2005 and in "Cadogan Hall" London in 2006. Recently she sang at The Polish National Opera in a concert In Memoriam for Maria Callas. Vassiliki Karayanni is a recipient of the "Special Prize" from the Greek Union of Musicians and Theatrical Critics for her interpretation of the role of Zerbinetta in the National Opera of Athens' new production of "Ariadne auf Naxos".
