Dutch pianist Reinild Mees is one of the most renowned vocal accompanists of today's music scene. She studied in Amsterdam, Paris and in the United States and soon began to specialize in accompanying noted singers. Mees perfected her training with Elly Ameling, Gérard Souzay and Jörg Demus. As an accompanist, she has taken part in master classes by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Irmgard Seefried and Galina Vishnevskaya and participated in the ARD Competition in Munich and the Concours Reine Elisabeth in Brussels. Reinild Mees concertizes regularly with soloists such as Carlo Colombara, Camilla Nylund, Iwona Sobotka, Jochen Kupfer and Tom Allen, appearing in most of Europe's leading musical centers. Many of her concerts are being recorded on television and radio. In addition to traditional song and duet recitals, she has created a series of semi-staged concert programs called "Spotlights," with which she has attracted widespread attention in the Netherlands and abroad. In June 2004 Reinild Mees was honored with the Szymanowski Award and the "Ambassador of Polish Culture" order. Next to her concert and teaching career, Reinild Mees is also the founder and director of the Stichting Het 20ste-eeuwse Lied, a foundation dedicated to the cultivation of the 20th-century art song. She has released a number of highly noted CDs with songs by Respighi, Schreker, Schumann and Szymanowski on the Channel Classics label.
