CARLO COLOMBARA is the protagonist of the movie "El Arte del bajo" by Oscar Martos, which was presented at Sevilla's Teatro de la Maestranza last month. This film will be released on DVD and shown on different international TV channels. On stage the renowned bass can currently be heard as Padre Guardiano in a new production of "La forza del destino" at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. He will perform again Conte di Walter in "Luisa Miller" during the Munich Opera Festival followed by Zaccaria in "Nabucco" at Herrenchiemsee Castle. During the 2008/09 season he will, amongst others, sing Verdi's "Messa da Requiem" in Brussels and Stuttgart, Zaccaria in Zurich and Ramfis in "Aida" at the Rome Opera.





Canadian conductor JACQUES LACOMBE had a great personal success conducting the new production of Wagner's "Der fliegende Holländer" at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Next season he will return to Berlin with another new production of "Ariadne auf Naxos" and further "Holländer" performances. In July and August 2008 he will make a concert tour to New Zealand with the Orchestre National des Jeunes du Canada. This fall he will conduct a double bill of Schönberg's "Erwartung" and Bartók's "Duke Bluebeard's castle" at the Opéra de Quebec.





WILL HUMBURG will open the 2008/98 season with new productions of "Un ballo in maschera" in Bonn and "Il barbiere di Siviglia" in Saarbrücken. After his successful debut at the Hamburg State Opera last year he will return there with Puccini's "Turandot" in November 2008. Before that he will conduct "Nabucco" in Busseto and Savona this July.





Thousands of enthusiastic listeners gave a triumphant acclaim to the Christmas Gala Concert given by ANNA TOMOWA-SINTOW at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia last December. Accompanied by the Classic FM Orchestra and the Sofia Boys Choir under the direction of Luciano di Martino the popular artist performed classical and traditional Christmas songs by Schubert, Bach/Gounod, Hristov, Frank, Adam and others. The concert was being telecasted live. It was the very first Christmas concert of this kind ever given in Bulgaria. In May 2008 she was a member of the Jury at the renowned Reine Elisabeth-competition in Brussels.





DAVID STAHL celebrated his 500th performance at the Munich Gärtnerplatz State Theatre in May. The enthusiastically acclaimed anniversary concert offered 20th century classics by Stravinsky, Weill, Britten and Shostakovitch. With this concert Stahl and his orchestra also started a new concert series called "Gärtnerplatz goes Symphony". Among his projects for 2008/09 are new productions of Rimskij-Korsakov's "Tsar Saltan" und Britten's "Death in Venice".





This spring pianist/accompanist REINILD MEES released Vol. 1 of the complete works of Edward Elgar's songs on the Channel Classics label. The recording with soloists Amanda Roocroft and Konrad Jarnot enjoyed a unanimous triumphant acclaim from the international music press. Again for Channel Classics she had also recorded a CD with classical Chinese songs with tenor Jingma Fan. In fall 2008 Reinild Mees will tour her new semi-staged programme "Goethe's women" together with Marlis Petersen.





FREDRIKA BRILLEMBOURG recently sang Fidalma in Cimarosa's "Il matrimonio segreto" at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. Among her engagements next season are Bianca in Zemlinsky's "Eine florentinische Tragödie" at the Greek National Opera in Athens this November, her first Herodias in "Salome" in Bremen and Bellini's "I puritani" and Verdi's "La Traviata" at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam.





Young Spanish tenor GERMÁN VILLAR celebrated a great success singing his first Siegmund in "Die Walküre" in Freiburg this month. Upcoming projects include his debuts at the Los Angeles Opera with "Carmen" and the Deutsche Oper Berlin with Respighi's "Marie Victoire".





The first Marcello Viotti Singing Competition will be held from September 20 to 23 in Lausanne in memory of the great late Swiss conductor MARCELLO VIOTTI (1954-2005). Jury members include Dr. Germinal Hilbert (president), Edita Gruberova, Neil Shicoff, Bertrand de Billy and Fortunato Ortombina.
