11.Festival of Chamber Music "Julian Rachlin & Friends"
Dubrovnik, August 27th - September 8th 2011
Star-violinist Julian Rachlin, founder and director of the "Julian Rachlin & Friends" festival in Dubrovnik, has planned a historic concert of great cultural and political importance. For the first time since the siege of Dubrovnik during the Croatia war in 1991, the Serbian "Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra" will be playing again in the beautiful city of Dubrovnik - a UNESCO "world cultural heritage". Maestro Zubin Mehta will conduct this historical event for the opening of the festival on August 27, 2011. The program will include Johannes Brahms' violin concerto with Julian Rachlin as soloist and Brahms 2nd Symphony. Further highlights of the festival will be concerts with such outstanding artists like Misha Maisky, Yefim Bronfman, Janine Jansen, Itamar Golan, Martin Grubinger, the "Academy of St. Martin in the Fields", as well as two highly original programmes with Sir Roger Moore and John Malkovich. A further highlight will be the UNICEF benefit "Soccer Gala" at the Lapad Stadium, where participating artists of the festival will play soccer under the leadership of their captain Julian Rachlin against representatives of the media with the participation of some of the most outstanding Croatian and international football stars.
