Greek baritone Dimitris Tiliakos was born in Rhodos and first studied viola at the Athens conservatory, before he took up his singing lessons with Kostas Paskalis. In 1996 he got a scholarship of the Maria Callas Foundation and finalized his studies with Daphne Evangelatos at the Musikhochschule in Munich. Shortly thereafter he made his German stage debut at the Prinzregententheatre in Munich in the role of Count Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and was awarded the Willi Domgraf-Fassbaender-Price for young opera singers. Beetween 1997 and summer 2003 Tiliakos was a member of the Nuremberg Opera, where he performed the major parts of the lyrical baritone repertory but also received great appreciation in roles such as Escamillo, Germont and Luna. Since 2003 he has been freelancing and quickly made a name for himself through a series of guest performances in his native country and abroad. He appeared in Bern, Karlsruhe and the Munich Biennale for modern opera and is a regular guest at the most important opera houses and concert halls of his native Greece, including the Greek National Opera and the Megaron in Athens, the Epidaurus Festival and the Megaron in Thessaloniki. Recent successes include performances as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly staged by Renata Scotto, Alfio with Agnes Baltsa in Thessaloniki and Beethoven's 9th symphony with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Myung-Whun Chung.
