Hölzl Mezzo Soprano

Born in Bad Tölz, Germany, Barbara Hölzl studied in Munich and Vienna. She has devoted herself above all to concert singing, a domain in which she has achieved a reputation as a highly expressive and stylistically sophisticated interpreter whose repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the present day. Recently she took part in world premieres by Jörg Widmann and Herwig Reiter. She is a sought-after partner of such distinguished conductors as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Sir Neville Marriner, Michel Plasson, Peter Schreier, Christoph Poppen, Bruno Weil, Franz Welser-Möst, Philippe Herreweghe, Vladimir Fedosejev, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Sigiswald Kuijken, Dennis Russel Davies, Helmuth Rilling and Will Humburg. She has guested at many of the leading music centers and festivals in Europe and worked with the most renowned orchestras and ensembles in Germany, Austria, Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain and the Scandinavian countries. The song is her particular passion. Accompanied by pianist Ralph Heiber, she frequently gives recitals in a number of European countries. Next to her concert activity, she also appears on the operatic stage, where the low contralto parts such as Ulrica and Erda are her innate domain. Barbara Hölzl has made several CD recordings and taken part in a number of television and radio broadcasts in Germany and abroad.
